Start of the Show
Tom Beers, CEO and Executive Producer for Original Productions opened the show “Ice Road Truckers” with these words:
“At the top of the world, there’s an outpost like no other…and a job only a few would dare. The mission: To haul critical supplies across 350 miles of frozen lakes to Canada’s remote billion-dollar diamond mines. The challenge: to transport 10,000 loads in 60 days before the road disappears. The rewards are great; the risks even greater. These are the men who make their living on thin ice.”
The premiere episode of “Ice Road Truckers” was first aired on the 17th of June, 2007. A staggering 3.4 million people watched the series premiere, making “Ice Road Truckers” the most popular show ever broadcast on The History Channel ever. Although The History Channel has been broadcasting exciting documentaries for 21 years now, no other show has so far managed to draw such a large number of viewers to the TV set.
Nancy Dubuc, general manager for The History Channel said that “we couldn’t be more pleased with the premiere. This is a great start to a series that showcases why history is so fascinating”. And why shouldn’t he be pleased, since the premiere episode had a rating of 2.6?
